About Brevard Web Hosting

Background: How Brevard Web Hosting got Started

Lawrence SalbergBrevard Web Hosting is owned by Lawrence Salberg, a 36-year resident of Brevard County. Lawrence has over fourteen years experience coding and designing websites. Starting off as a hobby in 1993, when the web was in it’s infancy, Lawrence quickly began coding websites for friends and family. In 1996, he authored his first official website for a candidate running for political office, long before other candidates began to recognize the “power of the web”.

Lawrence designed and contributed to several dozen websites when he began to help manage one of the largest and most controversial websites on the web in 1999 (which he still works on as an adviser in his ever-decreasing spare time). In 2005, he stopped working for others and branched out with his own business full-time.

Here’s what he had to say about why he decided to open up a “one-stop shop” for small to medium businesses.

“When I first noticed that some of my favorite businesses didn’t have a website, I asked them why. They told me they couldn’t afford it. They had taken the time to get quotes from website developers. The prices they were quoted shocked me. $4,700 for a basic website with a few pages and a few pictures? I knew things had to change. These small businesses were losing new clients because people didn’t know they existed. So, I started Brevard Web Hosting with the goal in mind that I would try to find a way to work with any client – no matter what their budget.”

“As time went on, I quickly realized that the ‘piecemeal’ approach of other web design companies was a turn-off to most small business owners. They didn’t want a quote (or an invoice!) with 38 line items, most of which they didn’t understand. Maybe other website developers weren’t interested in small business owners. So, I developed a ‘flat price’ that I felt could accommodate almost any business in town. My clients know what they were getting. For one single price, they get a professionally designed website, email addresses, true on-hands support when they need it, and a whole year of professionally managed hosting for their site.”

“Business owners would meet with me or my employees, tell us their needs, and go back to doing what they do best – growing and running their business. A website shouldn’t take away from their time with their business (or their family). In fact, my goal is to help add time back into their schedule by giving them the least-expensive, most productive employee a small business owner could ask for: a professional website.”

“Coming up with the idea of free unlimited changes proved to be a win-win, at first. Clients loved not worrying about future unknowable expenses, but still keeping their website updated. Still, they had to write out their changes by email, identify what went where, wait for me or my staff to do the changes, review the changes, and so forth. It was exhausting for them – and sometimes for me, too.”

“When I decided to move every client into a CMS (content management system), the project was enormous. But now, they all absolutely love it. They can log in to their own website 24 hours a day, make a change to the bio of an employee of theirs, upload a new menu item, post a news blurb about an upcoming event, or even delete something I put in! Gulp! They have total control – and they can check their update instantly. The CMS I use protects them from breaking their website, but if they ever have a question or need to add a fancy feature, I’m only a phone call away. What could be better than that?”

The Company: Dedicated to Brevard County

Brevard Web Hosting is locally owned and operated. Brevard Web Hosting is a hands-on business. It is here to support your business – to make you successful. We want to see your business grow.

The Network: Data Center Integrity

Brevard Web Hosting’s data center is located in Houston, Texas, far away from the Florida hurricanes. Your website will be online even if Brevard gets hit by the “big one”. The data center is staffed 24/7/365. There are multiple OC48 SONET fiber rings that provide basic connectivity to eight access carriers. The data center is completely redundant, including a 2200 gallon backup diesel generator. There are over 580 smoke detectors throughout the 35,000 square foot facility, with a VESDA contaminate system. Don’t worry if you don’t know what this means. The bottom line is that your website won’t be on some home network or local server farm that could leave you at risk.

Community: Do Unto Others

Brevard Web Hosting believes strongly in giving back to the community. If you simply cannot afford to be online and you are a registered not-for-profit entity, contact us to see if we can help you.
